Setting User Defaults

Open the /etc/login.defs file.

Options:

password settings

user and group ID parameters

default home directory location

 

The file /etc/bashrc sets up functions and aliases that will be available to all users.

Note that the default umask value is set here.

 

You can add system-wide aliases at the end of the existing file, for instance:

alias rm=‘rm –i’

Users can see what aliases are set for them using the alias command:

alias
